LUCAS MUSEUM OF NARRATIVE ART

Opening its doors in the year 2026 in Los Angeles

Where storytelling rises from the earth and architecture becomes a living narrative.

Lucas Museum of Narrative Art: A New Chapter in Architectural Storytelling

Nestled within Los Angeles’ historic Exposition Park, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art emerges not simply as a museum, but as a living, breathing extension of storytelling itself. Designed by MAD Architects under the visionary Ma Yansong, the structure moves beyond conventional museum design, it feels fluid, imaginative, and rooted in a deep respect for both human creativity and the natural world. Its lifted, sculptural form, with a rooftop garden that invites visitors into a sky-bound oasis, bridges narrative, environment, and emotion.

The museum’s soft curves, its cascading waterfall fountain, and its use of green public space all speak to a future where architecture uplifts rather than overpowers. This is a design that doesn’t just house stories, it becomes one.

At Lume & Line, we are drawn to spaces that hold intention in their bones. The Lucas Museum’s embrace of sustainability, movement, and layered experiences, mirrors the vision we bring to every corner of design exploration: places should feel alive, personal, and connected to the pulse of their surroundings. As we debut our magazine into the world, we could not imagine a better architectural emblem to stand beside, a space where art, life, and innovation are inseparable. We look forward to spotlighting more groundbreaking spaces like this each month, honoring the extraordinary ways design shapes the human spirit.

The design was conceptualized to reflect Los Angeles’s vibrant pioneering spirit and embrace of its diverse inhabitants, representing a celebration of dialogue, understanding, and inclusivity. It stands as a testament to the city's vibrancy, history of innovation, and rich cultural tapestry. For an institution dedicated to the art of visual storytelling, the design of the campus invites the visitor on a journey long before stepping into the museum’s galleries.
